El Cortez Cabana Suites Bring Posh to Downtown Las VegasFinally, Downtown Las Vegas can claim “wow power” with the new El Cortez Cabana Suites. The El Cortez, downtown’s first resort that opened in 1941, is the first to go modern by completely renovating the former decaying Ogden House located across the street from the hotel at 651 East Ogden Avenue. Owner Kenny Epstein envisioned a complete overhaul of the decaying 102-room, dreary Ogden House that was built in the 1970s and he got it. Even Steve Wynn would be impressed. He wanted a vintage South Beach-style property, which YWS Architects and Denver-based interior designer Heather Hassan’s contemporary furnishings and finishes accomplished with the new 64-boutique suite resort. On May 7, Mayor Oscar Goodman cut the ribbon and the El Cortez Cabana Suites were officially open. Source: Las Vegas Examiner Read the entire article (download PDF) |
